Morocco is blessed with rich and varied flora, which has allowed basketwork to flourish since prehistoric times. Originally, basketwork was only done by men, whereas today most master craftsmen are women. A variety of fibres are used in traditional Moroccan basketry. This basket is made with the doum palm, which grows in dry, rocky regions. In certain regions, baskets are decorated with colourful woollen yarn. According to the master craftsmen who make them, basketry objects are poems composed of strands and threads instead of words. This basket fits well in a nursery room.
